As a Data Scientist/Senior Data Scientist in this role, you will work collaboratively across various teams, both within and outside of Data Science, to analyze new data sources and their applicability to be integrated into our current client offerings. You will be working on a team to quickly learn about new data, analyze the value related to client needs, and develop techniques to be able to enhance our current offerings. This role is directly related to, and essential for, Nielsen's overall consumer panel strategy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plays a key role in product development from beginning to end; including, but not limited to:

    • Assuring the integrity of project data, including data extraction, storage, manipulation, processing and analysis

    • Using various methodologies (statistical, machine learning, projection, etc.) to use the data for enhancing our current offerings

    • Developing statistical and machine learning models to fill in knowledge gaps

    • Validating data against use cases

    • Delivering an end product that can be used by Nielsen's clients

  • Identify and address risks for major quality escapes

  • Communicate with Data Science and other teams to understand exact client needs and disseminate data usability constraints

  • Compiling and delivering documentation material such as White Papers and presentations for methodology questions or frequently asked questions; supporting basic client service marketing and client inquires as needed;

  • Participating in team projects and staff meetings


Role Requirements

  • Bachelor/Master's degree in Statistics, Social Science, Operation Research, or other hard sciences (eg Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Physics etc.)

  • 1-3 years' experience preferred

  • Broad industry knowledge

  • Intellectual curiosity and persistence to find answers to questions

  • A strong desire to dig into new, messy data and determine insights to answer client questions

  • Outstanding statistical, analytical, and logical skills

  • Experience with machine learning helpful

  • Experience with projection and bias reduction methodologies

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to autonomously manage multiple projects with set deadlines, under pressure

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Google Slides, Sheets, & Docs

  • Proficient in Python/R or other statistical packages and experience with Spark
