Position Summary:

The architect has overall responsibility for the architectural design of highly customized Mainframe systems as well as purchased solutions for Kroger's Retail Financial Systems. This architectural design includes platform, data management, and systems integration. In addition, the architect will continuously improve software delivery for these systems' processes and practices. This includes development, testing, debugging, and maintenance of software components in accordance to software development life cycle (SDLC) best practices. Essential Job Functions:
  • Lead and implement architectural and application design modifications for highly customized Mainframe systems to achieve system integrations for multi-company acquisitions and mergers utilizing company standards and best practices; define engineering and engineering process standards for the given discipline.
  • Partner with business partners such as Finance, Accounting, Billing, etc., to understand business processes and develop COBOL, PL1, CICS solutions using SDLC best practices.
  • Define architectural and application design work plans with resourcing, effort, and timelines for custom projects associated with Mainframe systems and manage the execution of that work load to completion.
  • Develop and maintain deployed technology list for each infrastructure discipline.
  • Coordinate efforts across multiple Kroger Technology teams that interface with highly customized systems to ensure dependencies and priorities are appropriately tracked and executed in the correct order.
  • Provide 4th level support for these customized and purchased applications, including involvement with the Kroger Support Center, Network Operations Center, infrastructure teams, and vendors.
  • Assist development teammates on assignments, including mentoring or providing on-the-job training to more junior associates.
  • Mentor team members in platform software development principles, patterns, processes, and practices.
  • Develop financial systems and security requirements associated with systems and financial reports under Sarbanes Oxley Act and GAAP.

Minimum Position Qualifications/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign educational equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field such as Electronics and Communication Engineering and at least 8 years of experience in all of the following: systems analysis, design and programming in Mainframe APS COBOL, PL1/P, and CICS; developing applications using UDB, DB2, IMS, and VSAM file system; developing batch jobs using JCL job control and configuring ZEKE scheduling; developing scripts using CLIST; debugging using XPEDITOR; processing change control utilizing MicroFocus' CHANGEMAN; and designing and developing systems aligned with GAAP standard financial reporting requirements as defined by the SEC
  • Included within the 8 years of experience required above, must also have 4 years of experience in the following: designing solutions using Hyperion Essbase and Business Objects reporting; and preparing system and internal control reports required during Sarbanes-Oxley audit, which includes security controls, policies, and procedures
