Job Brief

Monitors and operates all computer equipment in a data center environment. Responsible for first and second level problem determination and resolution. This position is for overnight and/or weekend shifts.

Job Responsibilities

  • Enters commands on IT systems and peripheral equipment, such as printers, mainframe, and data communications equipment to integrate and operate equipment following operating instructions and schedule.
  • Understands the inter connectivity of the software, network and IT systems.
  • Monitors IT systems to detect error messages that signal malfunction in communications of software or hardware, and respond appropriately, per documented procedures.
  • Performs diagnostic tasks and interprets codes/logs to determine the cause of IT systems problems.
  • Receives calls from all levels of the user community and responds in a tactful and courteous manner utilizing proper telephone/email etiquette.
  • Responds to user concerns by helping with their problems/procedures; answering questions and/or escalating calls and tickets to the appropriate support group.
  • Performs first and second level problem determination by defining the level of problem and ensuring that escalation is routed appropriately and provides follow up.
  • Operates production printers to print customer bills, reports, and other forms ensuring the highest quality standards are achieved. Observes material printed for defects such as creases, tears, misalignments, streaks, etc. and makes the appropriate corrections.
  • Monitors scheduling software to ensure that production schedules are accurate and corrects or escalates problems.
  • Distributes departmental reports throughout the building according to instructions.
  • Prepares turnover reports, statistics, documentation and quality control standards to improve computer operating efficiency.
  • Participates in the testing and implementation of all hardware and software affecting ITS Operations.
  • Assists Operation Analysts with research and implementation of monitoring tool configurations.
  • Performs racking and stacking of IT equipment in multiple data center locations.
  • Performs detailed inventory of data center IT assets.
  • *This is a shift work position. The will include over-nights and possible weekends.


College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.


At job entry, placement will be determined by a review of college transcripts and related work experience. A minimum of 6 years of related experience is required for the senior level. Once placed into the job family, an employee may become eligible for promotion by demonstrating the ability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by their management and meeting experience requirements.
